Blackened Lotus
Blackened Lotus is a stygian concoction. A penchant for minor keys and strange imagery is visualized by Eros with his blend of aphotic guitars and Emily's milieu keyboard soundscapes, making for rather surreal music. This is heightened by the presence of Angela's spellbinding contralto registar, set to cathartic prose that showcases goth on the sentimental side.
From a recent show:
As the fog machine pours dry ice we begin with "Eclipse," a dance-orientated number filled with cosmic synths and pseudo-psychedelic guitar. It is an eccentric stab at mainstream success, though typically bleak lyrics keep this selection from any sense of vacuity. The immediately succeeding arrangements are consistent club beats tinged with Eastern influenced synths, distorted guitars, and lyrics drenched in spiritual and self-referential mystique. Things get a little heavier when Angela takes a break and guitarist Eros takes a brooding vocal lead. This portion is more reflective of a dark affair. The pace changes again through the rest of set, showing up a rather pretty, ethereal side of the band. Paying more focus on sonic textures and layers than on structure, the music flows with a fluid ease to Angela's mesmerizing chant-like singing. It's romantic and it's vulnerable. This sophisticated unit is well worth seeing.
