Mission
Statement
Central PA PrideFest Unity Parade endeavors to bring
together the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender community
and our supporters through a public and united front.
By creating a venue for all to march equally together, we
strive to commemorate and celebrate our community's vast history
and diversity, while also providing a forum for those who
support our cause. The event is an effort to continue to educate
society on the liberation and equal rights that are denied
to so many - and much needed for us all.
Brief
History
Central PA PrideFest Unity Parade came to life during
the fall of 2005 when Dan Stroup presented the concept
of a Gay Pride Parade whose theme would be community unity
to the Central PA Pride Festival Committee. A sub committee
was formed to carry forth the concept. Working against a perception
that the community was too small to support such a parade,
Central PA's first Pride Unity Parade marched down Front
Street of Harrisburg on the morning of PrideFest
in July of 2006. Much to the delight of the 3000 spectators
and chagrin of a handful of protestors, the first Central
PA PrideFest Unity Parade was a resounding success!
Riding on the momentum of that first parade the Central PA
PrideFest Unity Parade Committee began planning for a bigger
and better 2nd parade. That 2nd parade doubled in participants,
splendor and spectators.
It is with much pride and pleasure that we announce the 3rd
Annual Central PA PrideFest Unity Parade. Starting at 10 am
on July 26, 2008 expect this parade to be bigger, more splendid,
more lavish and more united. We are committed to this year's
slogan:
- Pride
In Self.
- Pride In Family.
- Pride In All That
You Do.
